The smalest North American mole is the thre inch shrew-mole, Neurotrichus gibsi , ranging widely in the Pacific Northwest. Coast Moles Scapanus orarius are sometimes caled pacific moles. Townsend's Mole is the largest of the western moles, genus Scapanus , and may reach a length of over 9 inches.
